The best way to train your dog

In this book Dick Staal describes a new and effective way of training for puppies and adult working dogs. Read it and try it. You will see the difference!

Training with young puppies is just one of the special skills of Sgt. Dick Staal, master-trainer/instructor with the Netherlands' National Police Agency's K-9 Unit (K.L.P.D.) Throughout his career as a trainer he has developed a training method in which he can start training puppies as young as seven weeks old. In this book Dick Staal will mainly focus on how puppies can be trained to work, sport, or as a police service dog (PSD). Main topics discussed in this book are; searching, retrieving, passive alerts, tracking, proper alerting, finding evidence/lost objects, obeying, and of course bite work. Anyone who is involved in any type of dog training will be interested in this book. The advantages of training and shaping a puppy at a very early age is something Dick Staal believes in and the success is shown in this book. Dick Staal has bred many litters of puppies, he`s trained and handled many adult dogs, and he's trained more than 30 puppies. This is the foundation of his training method. This method can be seen as a combination of different trainings methods, however, Dick Staal's training method is mostly positive, and will introduce a variety of unique subjects, which are based on his own experiences through years of working as trainer and handler. His training methods are best described as motivational and affirmative, yet retaining components of compulsory conditioning to achieve desired results. This book will not discuss some of the more typical training methods, for example, socializing, feeding, and obedience. Dick Staal wrote about these topics in an earlier published book "Taught Young, Remembered for a Lifetime." However, this book will explain the methods Dick Staal uses to teach a puppy to search, and how this ability will expand to tracking of long trails. Also, Dick Staal will discuss the most difficult way to track, which is tracking in crowded areas and urban population. Other topics discussed in this book are teaching a puppy to retrieve and passive alerts. These trainings can also start when a puppy is as young as seven weeks old. Dick Staal also discusses how to start bite training with a young puppy, and the advantages this will have in the future. Because of his former job as coordinator of attack dogs for the Dutch Police Force, he is very experienced in this field, as well. Apart from working with dogs as a part of his job, Dick Staal is also a very enthusiastic hobbyist when it comes to training attack dogs.
